Hotel 1000’s Cheery Christmas Charity

Thanksgiving is nearly upon us; once that food orgy is done, it’s time to prepare for yet another … Christmas.

But the holidays are not just about hedonistic self-pleasure; they are also about giving pleasure to others. Sharing the happy hedonism, if you will.

Enter Hotel 1000’s  12 Days of Comfort, Joy & Cheer – really 24 days, but who’s counting?

From December 1st right through to Christmas Eve, nightly events abound: a movie night, a fireside book chat with the author, fireside holiday readings with the soothing voice of a radio personality or two, Seattle Art Museum lectures, photos with Santa (and the Seahawks’ Sea Gals), gourmet eggnog tasting, and mini ballet performances.

They’ll even have “Ski Wii” nights, my fellow hedonists. Just think of it: Ski Wii. Wheeeeeeeee!

These events are generally free and open to the public (and media) with two exceptions: 1) the 12 Days kick-off event – tickets are $40 for general admission and $150 for the VIP Reception – and 2) the Girlfriends Holiday Shopping Luncheon, which costs $35 per person).

Want to take part in their charity drive? Then pick up a 12 Days (really 24, remember) Passport and shop at the 18 participating retailers. Make a purchase between December 1st and 31st, and 12% of all donations will be made to this year’s selected charity, Art With Heart, a local Seattle-based 501(c)3 non-profit that aims to heal traumatized children and youth through the fantastically healing power of art.

Shouldn’t that be 24%, you ask? Indeed (worth a note for Hotel 1000’s suggestion box – I’ll let this post count as mine). You can always make up the difference yourself by making a direct donation to Art with Heart or by shopping in their online store.

So give the gift of healing and get your Christmas shopping done at the same time this Christmas … and have a ton of hedonistic fun doing it!
