Pike Chocofest: February 10th, 2011
Once again, it’s only a few short days until V-Day; what are you to do? Regardless of whether or not there’s a “significant other” in your life, every hedonist worth any salt loves to partake of liquors and chocolates – including chocolate liqueurs and licking chocolate. But tomorrow there’s something even better than a mere pairing; rather, a literal tasting orgy of artisanal chocolates that are paired with craft beer, wine, mead, and spirits, from both near and not-so-near.
In short, if you’ve time tomorrow night between 5:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., then do check out the Third Annual Pike Chocofest (complete with the tag line of “Foreplay Before the Big Day” – it’s held only four days before V-Day, remember).
Held at brewery and pub hybrid Pike Brewing Company, exhibit stations of nearly three dozen beer, wine, spirits, and chocolate vendors will be set up throughout the Micro Brewery Museum and the Naughty Nellie Room. Each exhibit station will feature over two dozen chocolates – often by the chocolate makers themselves – to be paired with over twenty different liquors, which will also be explained by respective representational folks in the know.

Some of Pike Brewing's chocolately offerings at its pub (left to right): three organic truffles made by former employee who founded Carter Chocolates in Port Orchard, Washington, which are paired with the three ales they were made from (only two shown in the photo). The truffles, from left to right, are: the Pike Kilt Lifter Milk Chocolate Truffle, Pike Tandem Dark Chocolate Truffle, and the Pike XXXXX Stout Bittersweet Truffle ($9.95). They also offer a chocolate stout gelato (far right) made by Gelatiamo (I recommend it floating in their Pike XXXXX Stout (try their Stout Float for $6.50).
Here’s a list of the exhibitors:
· Badger Mountain Vineyards and Powers Winery · Beer Candy · Bonafide Wine Estates · Carter’s Chocolates · Chocolate Box · Chukar Cherries · Classical Wines · Clear Creek Distillery · Click Wholesale: fine beer and port · Claudio Corallo · Confectional · Fran’s Chocolates · Gelatiamo Gelateria · Leonidas Chocolate · Merchant du Vin · Mistral Kitchen · Mount Baker Vineyards · Noble Wines · Oh! Chocolate · Pacific Distillery: Absinthe · Pike Brewing Company · Ritrovo Italian Regional Foods · Sky River Brewing: Mead · TASTE Restaurant · TCHO Chocolates · Small-Lot Co-Op · Theo Chocolates · Trevani Truffles ·Treasury Wine Estates · Woodinville Whiskey Company
The cost for this boozy chocoliciousness is $25 per person; you can RSVP to reserve a spot with Tara Shuttleworth at 206-812-6604 or email her at tshuttleworth@pikebrewing.com.
(Your Hedonista has been invited to attend as media and plans write up more about the event and the history and legacy behind Pike Brewing in a future article.)
