Has Anthony’s Home Port got a deal for you: its new Sunset Dinners. What’s a Sunset Dinner, you ask? (Good thing your Hedonista recently experienced a private media tasting, isn’t it?) The answer is simple (and economical): four courses – that’s appetizer, chowder or salad, main entrée and dessert – all for a mere $18.95! (What’s more, it’s good, too!)

Anthony’s fresh trout dish is light, flavorful, and on the lunch and regular menu, too.

The appetizers give you a choice of Oregon Bay shrimp cocktail, (haven’t tried), BBQ oysters, (flavored well, without losing the fresh oyster taste; BTW – there’s also a nightly oyster happy hour from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.) or Dungeness crab, shrimp & artichoke dip (also tasty).

The chowder ‘n’ salad choices include Anthony’s Clam Chowder or either a classic Caesar or blue cheese salad. The Caesar was just what you’d expect from a Caesar.

But the entrée was the true highlight: although there are a total of nine choices – seven regular items and two nightly features – the fresh trout – enveloped and pan fried in Panko crumbs, finished with Marcona almonds, topped with gremolata (lemon zest, peanuts, parsley, kosher salt & pepper), and served up with steamed asparagus and a golden raisin pilaf – is definitely a recommended pick.

The Buried Cane is a worthy pick … and the price is right.

Pair the trout with a 2008 Bernard Griffin Fume Blanc, and life gets juuust a little better. The smoky-sweet, honey-pearl jasmine bouquet, leading to a tart-like taste (in a good way), and finishing with a cleansing mouth feel, this label paired well with the trout. Another good label worth an order is the 2007 Buried Cane Chardonnay, which has formerly been voted Seattle Magazine’s “Best Washington Wines under $20.”

Anthony’s Home Port, viewed from above. “There’s no deck like it in the city.” (Photo courtesy of Anthony’s, used with permission.)

With its crisp, jasmine-laden-honeydew-and-toasted-coconut-meets-oaky-citrus scent; its dry, pear ‘n’ apple taste, and its dry finish that’s loaded with minerality, they say it tastes like it costs more than you pay for it – and they’re right. This wine is big complexity for the buck.

For dessert, there’s a choice of burnt cream, Bailey’s Irish cream chocolate mousse, or ice cream (I recommend the ice cream, made from Olympic Mountain Ice Cream in Shelton, WA – the chocolate cherry chip is de-lish)!

More good news: as if this fab four-courser isn’t enough to get you out to Anthony’s Home Port, it’s now halibut season, dear hedonists – so from now until roughly November, get to Anthony’s Home Port … even if your visit is just for the halibut (couldn’t resist).

Or the incredible view, for that matter.
